A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa and comprising Justice Dost Muhammad Khan and Justice Faisal Arab heard the case filed by death sentence convict Qaisar Mahmood.

The bench remarked that the prosecution failed to submit any solid evidence.

During the course of proceedings, the counsel for the accused informed the court that his client was awarded capital punishment by a trial court of Gojra over alleged murder of Bashir Ahmad on January 31, 2007.

He said the Lahore High Court converted the death sentence into life imprisonment because the prosecution did not submit any solid evidence against his client.

The statements of witnesses were also contradictory, he added.

He pleaded the court to acquit the accused keeping in view record of the case.

The court after hearing arguments acquitted the accused and disposed of the case.
