DGI&I has secret fund to give monetary benefits to informers: FBR
Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Sohail Ahmed said on Wednesday that Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation (DGI&I) has a secret fund to give monetary benefits to the informers, who particularly are engaged in smuggling of goods, which reach Kabul under the Afghan Transit Trade Agreement (ATTA).
Chairman FBR informed the National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance that the DG Intelligence and Investigation FBR has a secret fund for the informers. The informers, who give information about the places or godowns where smuggled items have been concealed, were given rewards from the secret fund. On the basis of information made available by these external informers, the officers of the DG Intelligence and Investigation FBR conduct raids to confiscate the smuggled goods.
Responding to a query, Sohail Ahmed said that the idea of outsourcing intelligence network could be used for discovering rich retailers and other categories of businessmen in the country. He said that the idea of outsourcing intelligence could be examined for broadening the tax-base. The FBR can examine this proposal to give incentives to the external informers, who would assist in broadening the tax-base. These external informers could be hired for carrying out surveys to unearth the potential taxpayers.
