After Supreme Court's July 31, 2009 judgement: PPP government should bring Musharraf to court: PML-N
After the Supreme Court's July 31, 2009 judgment, the PPP government has no option but to bring back Pervez Musharraf to Pakistan to justice. Ahsan Iqbal, Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N), said this while talking to Business Recorder on Wednesday. He said that now after this judgment, it is the duty of the government to bring Musharraf back to justice.
He said that the report of United Nations (UN) Commission revealed that former President General Pervez Musharraf and his government is responsible for the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. "The government must bring Musharraf back to Pakistan and he must defend himself before the Court. We have to set an example and thereby close the door of dictatorship in future and strengthen the democratic system in the country," Ahsan Iqbal said.
Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) leader Siddiqul Farooq said that it is a test for the PPP-government and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani to hold Pervez Musharraf accountable for 'crimes against the nation.' The government should issue red warrant through Interpol and bring Musharraf back to Pakistan.
Senator Pervez Rasheed said that the opposition would support the Prime Minister if he decides to bring General Musharraf back to Pakistan to stand trial. But the Prime Minister should take practical measures in this regard. He accused Pervez Musharraf of committing serious crimes and maintained that his trial is necessary in any civil, High Court or Supreme Court.
