The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has finalised an action plan on Wednesday against encroachments in areas falling in its jurisdiction. According to a LDA's spokesman, under the action plan all illegal structures would cleared that create hurdles in pedestrians' movement, smooth flow of traffic as well as quick disposal of storm water from roads.
It would be implemented within a week and 250 illegal structures have been identified. The LDA again offered plazas owners and builders to voluntarily demolish unlawful parts of structures under the supervision of its staff in the stipulated time, otherwise, the LDA would itself demolish the unlawful structures and owners or builders would have to bear the cost.
Meanwhile, an additional floor of Zarina Tower was demolished on the fourth day of operation against structures raised either in violation of building bylaws or without getting approval. LDA Director-General Omer Rasul remained at the central control room to monitor the operation launched in compliance with the order of the Supreme Court and the subsequent recommendations of the High rise Commission set up by the apex court.
The staff of Town Planning, Buildings, EME and Enforcement directorates of the LDA had been demolishing illegal parts of commercial plazas in two shifts round-the-clock. Three reserves of police had also been deputed at Rabi Centre on Gulberg's Main Boulevard, Inam Impax at Garden Town, Al Rahman Medical Complex on Ferozepur Road, Ahad Towers at Garden Block of Garden Town near Kalma Chowk, Big City near Liberty roundabout and Jeff Heights adjacent to Hafeez Centre in E-2 Block of Gulberg.
