KP govt announces public holiday on 1 Muharram

ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced public holiday on 1st Muharram on the occasion of martyrdom day of Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA).

Provincial government has made this announcement through a notification. The meeting of Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will be held today (Thursday) in Karachi for sighting the moon of Muharram.

In case the moon was sighted on Thursday then the new year of Islamic calendar will be observed tomorrow. In case the moon was not sighted, then 1st Muharram will be observed on Saturday.
