The basic purpose of publishing selected Pakistani literature 1947-2008 is to bring to fore this collection of Urdu poetry and short stories which may determine the trend of Urdu literature with regards to national temper and Pakistani society. This was stated by Fakhar Zaman, Chairman, Pakistan Academy of Letters while briefing the press on the publishing of "Pakistani Adab: Selected Poetry" and " Pakistani Adab: Selection of Short Stories 1947-2008."
He said that PAL has tried its level best to make a selection on national level which is free from favouritism. The selection of Pakistani Adab, Afsana and poetry has been made by Dr Rasheed Amjad. He said such selection of Pakistani Literature would be published in other Pakistani languages such as Punjabi, Seraiki, Sindhi, Pashto, Hindko, Gujrati and the languages of Northern Areas.
He said that common readers and writers would benefit from this selection. In this selection the mood of Urdu literature its evolution and the development in the themes are important points. The conceptual changes in poetry and short stories are reflected in this selection. This selection is of importance to researchers, he added.
