The general house of the Lahore Bar Association (LHCBA) once again turned into a fish market soon after a resolution was presented for voting as the members professional group started shouting full-throated slogans against president Munawar Gondal, making it impossible to vote on a resolution about welfare of the bar.
The meeting was disturbed when the mover of a resolution Muhammad Azhar Siddique was invited to present his demands to the House. Before he could reach to dais, a senior lawyer Manzoor Gilani grabbed the dais and started shouting against Gondal terming him an illegal president.
He was of the view that why his resolution demanding fresh presidential election in bar was not presented before the House for voting, pleading that vice president could not hold the president office for a longer period.
Secretary Muqtider Akhtar Shabbir made a request to Gilani saying,"let Azhar present his resolution before the House first then he would be invited to express his views. But Gilnai did not move an inch and other lawyers including Raja Zulqurnain and Rana Saeed also joined him. With all attempts to calm the situation failed, Gondal's supporters also responded in the same manner, that made situation worst.
At this movement, Muqtider intervened and took a wise step to adjourn the House avoiding chances of fierce clashes. Controversy over fresh election had remained unresolved since Siddiqi left covet slot after remaining only two months in the office in March.
Both sides are stuck to their guns and not ready to retreat from positions they had taken. It is to be remembered that couple of weeks ago bar's general house meeting convened to vote on a requisition calling for fresh elections was ended indecisive.
Gondal has alleged that Hamid Khan masterminded all this fuss because he is not ready to accept the reality that this president is not his stooge. He said Hamid Khan and his coteries wanted to implement their own agenda based on personal interests.
