National Trust for Population Welfare (NATPOW) plans to provide comprehensive reproductive health care and family planning services through greater involvement of NGOs and local communities. NATPOW envisages an effective partnership between itself, government, donors and private sector for the implementation of National Population and Development Policy.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed between National Trust for Population Welfare (NATPOW) and an organisation John Snow Inc PAIMAN at Ministry of Population Welfare.
Highlighting the salient features of MoU, CEO NATPOW Iftikhar Durrani said the partner organisation would review, analyse and conduct institutional assessment of NATPOW and would help to build its capacity through technical input and training to strengthen and enhance its progress. It would also facilitate NATPOW for restructuring to make it a technically viable and financially sustainable institute.
The MoU was signed by Dr Nabeela Ali, Chief of the organisation JSI/PAIMAN and Iftikhar Durrani, Chief Executive Officer on behalf of NATPOW. Federal Minister for Population Welfare Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on the occasion appreciated the efforts of Chief Executive Officer NATPOW Iftikhar Durrani who not only brought NATPOW in the mainstream but also made efforts to activate it.
She congratulated the ministry as well as NATPOW and its collaborating partners "PAIMAN" for signing the MoU to fulfil the commitment of a healthy Pakistan made by great leader Benazir.
CEO NATPOW Iftikhar Durrani briefed the audience regarding his efforts for making NATPOW a more viable and valuable organisation. He emphasised the importance of NATPOW as a key organisation for implementing the government initiatives and building a bridge between the public and private enterprises having a consortium of 600 NGOs throughout the country including FATA, Northern Areas and Azad Jammu Kashmir.
Nayyar Agha, Secretary, Ministry of Population Welfare and representatives from USAID and officials of the ministry were also present on the occasion.
