Under City Development Package here work on seven main city roads has been completed at a cost of Rs 650 million, Sialkot District Nazim Muhammad Akmal Cheema said. Talking to Business Recorder here on Wednesday he said that the local business community contributed 25 percent of the cost. He said that under the Package more than Rs 518 million would be spent on the construction, widening of resurfacing different of different roads.
He said that ultramodern traffic signals with timers would be installed, costing Rs 2.4 million on newly completed Khwaja Safdar Road, and added that under the first phase of the programme traffic signals would be installed at Lorry Adda and Shell petrol pump roundabout, while blinkers would also be installed on four different turning points and lights on Khwaja Safdar Road would also be installed shortly.
The Nazim stressed the need of utilisation of available funds the projects pertaining to people's welfare for ensuring maximum facilities to the masses in Sialkot district. He said that Khwaja Safdar Road had been completed under Citizen Community Board (CCB) at a cost of Rs 80 million, of which the local business community contributed Rs 18 million and Sialkot Cantonment provided highly valued land costing Rs 200 million.
Meanwhile, low price housing plan: Punjab government has evolved a plan of low price housing, costing Rs 1 billion, for accommodating poor, destitute and shelterless people. Official sources told Business Recorder here on Wednesday that the concept of undertaking the scheme is to resolve the accommodation problems on permanent basis.
