Punjab Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that the process of provision of 'roti' to the people for Rs 2 will continue and this noble cause will be pursued as a mission. He was addressing a meeting regarding supply of Sasti Roti in the province here on Wednesday, disclosed an official.
He said special committees comprising public-spirited persons of civil society, business community and social workers would be constituted to supervise the process. Though supply of Sasti Roti to the masses is no less than a challenge in the present era of price hike but the present government will ensure its availability to the masses for Rs 2.
According to him, all efforts for the development of agriculture, industrial, health, education and other sectors would prove futile if roti were not available to the citizens at an affordable price. The government had accomplished an almost impossible task by providing roti to the masses for Rs 2 during Ramazan-ul-Mubarak and now availability of roti for Rs 2 is being ensured throughout the year.
He is hopeful that the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) workers will take up this job as a movement and will bring about a revolutionary change in the province through success of this campaign. He said the co-operation of general public and the PML workers is of utmost importance for the accomplishment of this noble cause. The government through its sincerity and spirit of service to the masses will ensure availability of roti to the poor people for Rs 2.
The Chief Minister further said roti is a basic necessity and workers should submit solid and practicable proposals for the success of the programme of provision of Sasti Roti to the masses. He also said several proposals are already under consideration to ensure proper utilisation of funds allocated for the supply of Sasti Roti besides maintaining its quality.
Assembly members and office-bearers of various union councils assured Chief Minister that they would spare no effort for the success of the campaign launched with regard to supply of Sasti Roti to the citizens. The Chief Minister directed that proposals regarding this project should be finalised and submitted to him at the earliest.
Senior Advisor and President Pakistan Muslim League (N) Punjab Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, Provincial General Secretary Raja Ashfaq Sarwar, Provincial Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, Nadeem Kamran Malik, Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor, Media Advisor Pervez Rasheed, Khawaja Ahmad Hasaan, Assembly Members of Lahore, Presidents and General Secretaries of all PML organisations of the city and senior officers of various departments were present in the meeting.
