Noted poet, writer and former Director General Pakistan Academy of Letters Khatir Ghaznavi died of protracted illness here at his residence at Gulbahar Colony in the wee hours of Monday. He was at home for long time and had abandoned his literary activities due to pro-long illness.
He was a chronic diabetic and blood pressure patient and during his last days, he had lost his memory as well, the family sources said. Late Ghaznavi will be buried at 7 pm on Monday evening at his ancestral graveyard in Peshawar.
Khatir Ghaznavi, a former Chairman of Urdu Department University of Peshawar was among the founding members of the Abaseen Arts Council. He was author of various books including poetry and short stories.
Apart from Urdu, he also wrote books in Hindku language and had set up his personal library containing various precious books, which he had recently gifted to Peshawar University. A separate place has been allocated for his books in Peshawar University's Central Library. The Late Ghaznavi visited various countries and worked for the promotion of Urdu literature.
