Nokia Siemens Networks, the Finnish-German telecom networks manufacturer, said on July 3 that it had signed a memorandum of understanding worth 900 million dollars with India's Bharti Airtel.
Under the deal, Nokia Siemens Networks will expand Bharti Airtel's mobile, fixed and intelligent network platforms. It will expand Airtel's GSM network in eight regions where it has already provided equipment and managed services, a statement said.
The Finnish-German Company will also expand Bharti Airtel's next generation network and its international calling card prepaid service capacity by 4.5 million new users.
"The expansion will enable Airtel to rapidly expand its geographical footprint to rural India and increase its overall network capacity," the statement said. The GSM and next generation network expansions are planned over two years and the international calling cards expansion over three years.
