The prevailing weather condition was conducive to invite attack by mealy bug and white fly on cotton crop and growers should monitor their fields daily to adopt preventive measures to save the crop.
"Humid weather was suitable to nurture growth of white fly and mealy bug and daily monitoring of cotton fields was imperative to avoid attack by the two pests," EDO agriculture Qamar Mohyuddin said while talking to the newsmen here.
He said that rainwater should be drained out of the field without any delay and crop be given fertilisers and water on the basis of need. Meanwhile, EDO and DO agriculture Rana Ahmad Munir visited different cotton fields in Thingi area to assess the presence of mealy bug and white fly. They advised the growers to spray Emedacloperd 250ml, 120 litre water and 50 gram washing powder on small cotton plants in case of attack by mealy bug. The spray of mixture of prophenophos (800ml), 120 litres of water and 50 gram washing powder be applied twice with a gap of four days in case of attack of the pest on bigger cotton plants, they added.
