Kenyan coffee prices were weaker at this week's auction with only a few lots attracting good prices and the rest suffering due to quality, exporters said on Wednesday. The average price for all lots at the auction fell to $90.21 per 50k-kg bag compared with $96.43 at the last sale.
"We are now coming to the end of the main crop and with that in mind there is certainly a lack of good lots," Chris Rankly of the Rankly Coffee Company said. The Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) said 15,079 60-kg bags were sold from the 22,599 bags put up for sale.
A lot of unwashed beans have been getting to the auction in the past few weeks as the auction nears the season's end. The weekly sales will take a month-long annual break in August. Prices for top grade A ranged between $184-$64 per 50-kg bag compared with $181-$110 last week and those for grade AB sold at $146-$100 from $146-$80 previously.
