Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday decided to take up references against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, Imran Khan on July 16, 2007. The decision was made at the meeting of Election Commission, chaired by Justice Qazi Muhammad Farooq (Retd), Chief Election Commissioner, on Tuesday.
Members of Election Commission, Justice Nasim Sikandar, Judge, Lahore High Court and Justice Ahmed Khan Lashari, Judge, High Court of Balochistan attended the meeting. Kanwar Dilshad, Secretary, Election Commission were also present. These references have been sent to Election Commission by Speaker National Assembly, Chaudhry Amir Hussain.
The references against Imran Khan were filed by Dr Muhammad Farooq Sattar, MNA and nine others and Dr Sher Afgan Khan Niazi, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, under Article 63(2) of the Constitution read with section 99(1)(d)(e) and (f) of the Representation of the People Act 1976.
It was decided during the meeting that notices be issued to the respondent for July 16, 2007 at 1100 hours. It was also ordered that copies of the References together with their accompaniments be despatched to the respondent along with the notice and the respondent be also asked to file his written statement on the date fixed.
