Country's over all basmati rice exports have been increased by 12 percent to 47.45 million dollars during 2006-07 fiscal year as compared to 42.36 million-dollar exports of 2005-06 fiscal year. As per quantity, the total basmati rice exports have been increased by around four percent, as the country has exported a total of 771,099 tons of basmati rice during the last fiscal as against 7,42,000 tons exported during 2005-06.
Of the total basmati exports, Super basmati rice exports stood at 530,080 tons, Super (Sela) parboiled 38,012 tons and exports of basmati rice stood at 203,008 tons during 2006-07. Although any proper data for non-basmati varieties of rice exports was not available.
However, according to a leading rice exporter, Irri-6 worth 387 million dollars has been exported during the last fiscal year till June 23, 2007. The increase in rice exports were mainly due to value-addition as there was a minor increase in quantity of this commodity during this period, a leading rice exporters said.
