The government has decided to weed out corrupt officials of Lahore Development Authority who are responsible for backing construction of illegal buildings in the provincial metropolitan. The step is being taken to control illegal constructions in the city, LDA sources told APP here on Sunday.
"Crackdown is being launched to apprehend the owners of illegally constructed buildings and the LDA officials responsible for providing `undue favouritism' either by negligence in their duty or by `wilful default' in performing their obligations to mint money," they said.
They said there are several cases in which high-rise buildings are being constructed without getting no objection certificates (NOC) and no official is going to check their construction.
Director General LDA have already been directed by the department of housing and urban planning to evolve a strategy to control illegal constructions and set up a separate anti-encroachment wing on permanent basis.
The wing would be responsible for checking encroachments or illegal constructions in the area and will initiate stern action against the owners of such buildings. They said construction of commercial and residential buildings would be ensured according to the devised plan.
A master plan of Lahore City will also be prepared to take preventive measures against illegal constructions in future. LDA will also prepare list of such housing societies who have acquired NOCs or have applied to LDA for NOC, so that crackdown could be started against illegal housing societies.
