Rain stops play at Wimbledon

Rain stopped play at Wimbledon on Saturday after only 75 minutes of action on the sixth day of the grasscourt championships. Following an initial four-hour delay, champion Amelie Mauresmo and second seed Maria Sharapova were the only players able to complete their matches and reach the fourth round.
Three-times former champion Venus Williams might have been relieved at the suspension as she was two breaks down in the second set after winning the first 6-2 against Japan's Akiko Morigami.
The bad weather has so far interrupted all but two days of the grasscourt championships and the forecast remains grim well into next week. But organisers said that despite a wet first week there would be no play on Sunday. The middle Sunday of the tournament has traditionally been a rest day but on three occasions organisers had to use the day to get the timetable back on track. Among those affected by the delays on Saturday was world number two Rafael Nadal.
