Final voters' list is likely to be displayed by first week of September at more than 45,000 centres across the country, said Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan, Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad on Saturday. However, missing voters would have right to get themselves registered till the appearance of elections schedule, the ECP Secretary told PTV.
Missing voter should file an application along with his copy of ID card, he would be registered within no time, he added. Dilshad said process of voters' list was started on July 14, 2006 with the assistance of more than 135,000 staff from different departments, which continued till October 31, 2006. He said data has been collected from more than 20 million houses across the country in door-to-door campaign, adding that data of almost every house is available with the ECP.
He said both new and old ID cards would be valid in the upcoming elections as Nadra could not provide computerised ID cards to every citizen. To a question the Secretary said ECP is a fully autonomous body, which has to work under the prescribed rules and regulations.
