The Senate of Pakistan is hosting the Regional Parliamentary Seminar on "Developing a protective environment for South Asian children - the role of parliamentarians in the protection of children in the Juvenile Justice System".
The seminar will be held here from June 27 - 29, and it will be inaugurated by Speaker National Assembly, Chaudhry Amir Hussain, while the concluding session will be chaired by Jan Mohammad Khan Jamali, Deputy Chairman Senate of Pakistan on June 29.
The Seminar aims at enabling parliamentarians and the parliamentary staff involved in child protection issues to have a deeper understanding of the tools at their disposal to develop a protective environment for the children.
It would be a source of orientation to members of parliament on best parliamentary practices for child protection legislation and implementation and would sensitise MPs' about the need to develop a protective framework for children.
The Regional Parliamentary Seminar is being organised by IPU and Unicef at the invitation of the Senate of Pakistan and it will be attended by the members of the National Parliaments of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Independent National and international experts/resource persons will make presentations and lead interactive discussions on the themes of the seminar. It may be pertinent to mention here that the Secretary General of IPU, Anders B. Johns, fully appreciative of Pakistan's valuable contribution to IPU activities and also the number of initiatives taken by the Government of Pakistan relating to child protection issues had requested the senate chairman to host the event.
