Minister for Religious Affairs Muhammad Ijaz-ul-Haq on Saturday filed two separate privilege motions against opposition member and Tehrik-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan and the Punjab Bar.
"The privilege motions have been filed in the National Assembly Secretariat under rule 95 of the Rules of Privilege and Procedures," he told reporters at the press briefing room in the Parliament House.
He said that Imran Khan and others had stated on private television channels and in the print media that 70 percent of members of the National Assembly would lose their seats under articles 62 and 63. Ijaz-ul-Haq asked for the holding of an inquiry by the privilege committee to take action against them.
In his second motion, which was also signed by Dr Farooq Sattar, Dr S. Javed Hussain and others, he said the privilege of the House has been breached by the Punjab Bar Council announcement of banning the Speaker of National Assembly from the Punjab Bar. According to the minister, he has asked that this matter too be referred to the privilege committee for an urgent inquiry.
