The committee of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), formed to overcome power crisis in the metropolis, on Friday made an appeal to President General Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad and Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim to end persisting power crisis in Karachi.
The committee also asked Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) to improve its performance and provide relief to masses, who are compelled to express their rage over prolonged power outages of 10 to 16 hours daily. The members of the committee and Sindh Minister for Environment and Alternative Energy Dr Saghir Ahmed and others said that people were compelled to take to streets due to prolonged power failures. He said the worst hit of this situation were students, preparing for the examinations.
He asked KESC to close 'C' shifts of industries and provide smooth power supply to residential areas and keep eye on duration of power load shedding in Liaquatabad, Gulbahar, FB area, Nazimabad, New Karachi, Baldia, Akhtar Colony and adjoining localities.
