The government has reduced customs duty on the import of crude oil (PCT heading 1511.1000) from Rs 9500 to Rs 9000 per tonne. Through amendment in the Finance Bill (2007-2008) on Friday, the rates of customs duty have been revised on different items.
Five percent duty has been abolished on the import of Kaolin and other kaolinic clays, whether or not calcined. Duty has been enhanced from 20 percent to 25 percent on the import of Ethyl acetate (PCT heading 2915.3100).
Duty has been reduced from 35 percent to 15 percent on the import of carpets and other textile floor coverings, tufted, whether or not made up of a kind used in motor cars of heading 8703 and vehicles of sub-headings 8703.2113, 8703.2193, 8703.3223, 8704.2190, 8704.3190 (cut to size and shaped). Duty has been raised on the import of coated electrodes of base metal, for electric arc-welding from 20 percent to 25 percent. Duty has been abolished on the import of toner and ink cartridges for computer printers excluding disposable type (PCT heading 8443.9950).
