The chairman LCCI standing committee on Customs and Ports Aftab Ahmad Vohra has hailed the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) for withdrawing one percent special surcharge on the import of inputs and raw materials by manufacturers-cum-exporters of textile, leather products, footwear, carpets, sports and surgical goods.
He expressed these views while chairing a meeting of standing committee here at LCCI on Thursday. He said that the step would help revive the textile sector, which has been facing severe crisis for a long time. He further said that Member Customs Shahid Rahim Sheikh had promised that the payments made in the previous entries would also be returned.
Member Customs also promised to restore the right of appeal against the decision of Director General Valuation earlier withdrawn under section 25D. He urged the government to allow a clearing agent to plead in the tribunal on behalf of client.
