The Lahore Businessmen Association for the Disable Persons (LABARD) has urged the government to initiate a strict action against professional beggars and those anti-social elements that are creating beggars by turning children handicapped.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, the LABARD office-bearers said that the situation was fast getting worst day by day. It seems, they feared, that some organised groups are involved in creating beggars by kidnapping children from various parts of the country.
The statement also lauded the Lahore High Court orders seeking list of beggars from the Inspector General of Police and termed it a step in the right direction as this would help eliminate this curse once for all. They said that the government should also tighten the noose around professional beggars who are tarnishing the image of the country.
