Experts at a three-day workshop on Tuesday urged the nazims and naib nazims to include women in Masalehat Anjuman (reconciliation body) of all the union councils to settle family disputes. The workshop was organised by the Municipal Training Research Institute (MTRI) in Karachi.
The topic was "Justice through Masalehat Anjuman". The main objective of the workshop was to train nazims, naib nazims and the councillors in capacity building to improve their abilities in dealing with reconciliatory matters.
Principal of MTRI Afzal Arain, Dr Sikandar Panhwar, Faiza Saleem and Rias Fatima, Assistant Director, of the Social Welfare Institute Sindh focussed on the gender sensitisation strategy at local level and role of women councillors in Masalehat Anjuman.
Nearly 72 representatives from all over Sindh participated in the workshop to share each other's experiences and also to inform the provincial government about the enormity of such civic problems. They told the nazims and the naib nazims that if there was any issue in the city or at domestic levels, it is the Masalehat Anjuman of the union council which should solve the problem on priority.
Speaking on the occasion, Rias Fatima, Assistant Director of the Social Welfare Institute of Sindh, stressed the importance of the capacity building among women councillors and women workers' role in social welfare works.
She said that a woman must be included in the Masalaehat Anjuman of the Union councils, but she must be able enough and competent to tackle the rising frustrations in society. She said that after attending the workshops and the training programmes, they would be able to be effective citizens of the city and can help others in a proper manner.
Other speakers also emphasised the need for betterment of society and suggested that the workforce of the union councils can solve many intricate issues in a positive way. Such workshops will help reduce lawlessness and crimes in the society, they said.
