Total portfolio investment at the country''s equity market has increased by $7.225 million and reached its second highest level of $867.037 million on June 18, 2007 on the back of fresh inflow from Hong Kong, UAE, UK and USA. Earlier, it was recorded at highest-ever of $897.243 million on June 08, 2007.
A declining trend of portfolio investment was observed during the last couple of days, however, the recent increase in this mode of funding shows continuous interest of foreign investors at the local equity market.
According to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) total inflow of $9,737,120 was recorded only on June 18 while the total outflow was $2,511,490 on the said date. Total inflow of portfolio investment was $116,951,550 in the current month from June 01, 2007 to June 18, 2007. The highest inflow was registered by USA investors recorded at $673,252,458 followed by UK $172,072,171 on June 18, 2007.
The investors from Netherlands invested $44,124,443, Hong Kong $27,360,563 Kuwait $14,176,417, Singapore $8,272,155, Germany $7,111,896 and Japan $7,074,298. The inflow from France was $376.040, from Bahrain $127,018, from Qatar $14,926 and from Oman $2,823.
On the outflow side, Switzerland was at the top, which withdrew $72,419,691 from the Pakistan''s equity market during this fiscal year followed by Australia with $6,916,235. The UAE withdrew $2,181,975, B. V. Island $1,852,249, Luxembourg $1,073,665, Bahamas $781,330, Malaysia $497,210, Guernsey $468,835, Saudi Arabia $423,696, Liberia $261,493 and Denmark withdrew $51,401 till the date.
