A dedicated scholar and former vice-chancellor of Preston University, Dr Syed Riaz Ahmad, died at the Shifa Hospital. He was the former member, Directing Staff at the Pakistan Administrative Staff, Lahore, for many years, and also served in the Pakistan Banking Council, the Askari Bank and other institutions.
He supervised a number of dissertations and theses and was the author of several books on politics in Pakistan. In addition to a well-known political scientist, Dr Riaz was a literary man and published several Urdu poetry collections. His English translation of Noon Meem Rashid found good reception in literary circles. IIU President Dr Anwar H. Siddiqui has condoled Dr Riaz's death.
