Chairman Senate, Mohammedmian Soomro and President, Council of the National Senate of Algeria Abdelkader Bensalah, have affirmed that their respective countries are committed to regional and international peace, and both countries were moving closer in a number of fields to achieve this objective.
The talk between the heads of two upper chambers of respective countries was held after the seven-member Algerian Parliamentary delegation called on the Senate Chairman at his residence on Monday afternoon. Senate Deputy Chairman Jan Mohammad Khan Jamali, Babar Khan Ghauri, Minister for Ports and Shipping, Ahmad Ali, Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Finance, as well as Senator Dr Ismail Buledi were present.
Recalling his earlier visit to Algeria two years ago, Soomro expressed satisfaction at the exchange of delegations that has contributed to strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries, and the visit of Abdelkader Bensalah would add dynamism and substance to these bilateral relations. He said Algerian participation in Expo-Pakistan reflected the seriousness of Algerian businessmen in improving commercial ties with Pakistan. But there is a scope for much better economic co-operation. The scope also exists in the continuing work on Gwadar, but bilateral relations would build better with exchange of teachers, students and businessmen.
Jan Mohammad Khan Jamali referred to the key role of Algeria in the struggle against colonialism and also the key role played by Algeria as a member of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). During the talks, Abdelkader Bensalah discussed about recently held elections to People's National Assembly of Algeria and of his country's steps to achieve greater economic growth.
Bensaleh also give a brief overview of a number of development projects undertaken in his country and steps taken to attract investment. Chairman Soomro also hosted the Algerian delegation. Federal Ministers, Senators, Diplomats attended the lunch.
