Agriculture sector is still thriving and looming sector of the nation economy and work like engine for the prosperity and economic up lift for the country. According to Economic Survey of Pakistan, the agriculture sector is still the single largest sector of the economy, which touched the level of record production this year.
Record wheat produce about 23.05 million metric tons were produced because of diverse climate and availability of fertilisers on economical rates, the survey said.
It said wheat production was up by 10 percent as compared to last year and sugarcane production was also improved by 22.6 percent last year, which was the second highest crop in the history of the country.
Cotton production remained at 13.0 million bales at last year level while bumper crops of gram and pulses about 0.842 million tons was gained which led to the prices down in domestic market.
Highlighting the role of livestock sector in national economy the survey revealed that this sector contributes 50 percent of agriculture sector.
It said this sector performed well at strong growth rate of 7.5 percent during last year.
