Imran Khan has suddenly moved from talk to action. He wants to sue Altaf Husain on several counts. But why only Altaf? Why not also Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif, who too have charges pending against them? (They also filed charges of massive corruption against each other when in power).
Imran accuses Altaf of having no legitimate source of income to meet his expenses in London, where he has been staying for 15 years. Benazir has also been abroad for 10 years. How has she been meeting her living expenses? (The income from her inherited land in Sindh can't be enough, even if remitted through any legal channel).
Nawaz took his whole family, even servants, with him seven years ago. What is his source of income to maintain his lavish living style? Both are not known to have filed income tax returns for years.
Imran wants Altaf's trial in UK, because he cannot be brought here as he is a British citizen. But, both Benazir and Nawaz can be easily extradited for trial because both are Pakistani nationals. So, why does Imran want the trial of only Altaf? Is it because Altaf is in coalition with the Muslim League, while he is in the opposition camp?
Meanwhile, will Imran explain who will be financing the cost of his case against Altaf Husain? Imran did contest a defamation case against a British cricketer but it was a fairly simple case. Any trial of Altaf will take a long time, many lawyers and huge costs.
Imran does not have that kind of money of his own. Benazir and Nawaz are used to spending only public money, not their own. MMA people believe in getting money, not giving it away. Then who will bear the cost of the case? Is it the Pir Sahib of Amrika Shareef, the patron saint of all our opposition politicians? Regarding the references against Imran Khan by MQM and Dr Sher Afgan.
Imran Khan has many supporters, especially among women, and they are giving all sorts of arguments in his support. Unfortunately, every single argument is irrelevant and invalid. His supporters are confusing his character with the application of law.
Nobody denies that he won the world cup in cricket. Nobody ignores his great contribution for cancer patients. However, his politics is a different matter as he has not been able to organise his party even after 10 years. Even that failure can be forgiven because it does not cause any harm to anyone other than his own self.
The reference is only a legal matter. He says that Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution should apply to all. Fine. But even if all MNAs, Senators and MPAs are disqualified, it will still not prove that Imran is not guilty.
Secondly, nobody ever stopped Imran from filing references against others if he had any evidence. The argument that he should not be punished because others are also guilty does not hold water. Should the courts let the criminals appearing before them go only because there are many criminals still large?
The matter is very clear. Imran has to prove that the evidence against him is bogus. If he cannot, he will be disqualified. Nothing else matters. It is justice under the law. What is wrong with it?
Justice, dear Imran Khan, is for all, from all, and in accordance with the law. Justice is supposed to be the primary objective of your party, Tehrik-i-Insaf. Then why not let justice prevail. Justice is too noble a cause to be sacrificed at the altar of political convenience. Seeking selective justice will destroy whatever credibility you have.
