Chief of Tehrik-i-Insaf Imran Khan has said that the MQM leader Altaf Hussain and President General Pervez Musharraf are responsible for the May 12 violence in Karachi. In an interview with a private TV channel, he said the government was not initiating inquiry into the incident, which was against the Constitution.
He said the MQM was not a democratic party as it was totally controlled by one person. Khan observed Pakistan is now changed and the whole credit goes to the private channels. "I really appreciate the efforts of private TV channels. The private channels have changed Pakistan and that is why some miscalculations from General Musharraf and Altaf made mistake on May 12 working for the power only."
Imran Farooq, a central leader of MQM, on the occasion said that MQM was the only democratic party of the country and the allegations against his party were totally baseless.
To a question Dr Imran said that MQM was serving the middle class of the society and never involved in violence. He said there is no dictatorship in Pakistan. President Musharraf has made the right decision after the 9/11, he maintained "We are only supporting the good decisions of President General Pervez Musharraf and always condemned and opposed the wrong decisions of the President."
To a question about the dual nationality of Altaf Hussain, Dr Imran Farooq said many people had the double nationality, adding that Altaf was a true Pakistani. To another question he said power was not the issue for the MQM. "We are working for the common people," he added.
