The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has asked the importers/exporters to pay the principal amount of customs duty for availing amnesty in payment of fine and penalties by June 30, 2007. Under the scheme notified through SRO 485(I)/2007, importers/exporters have been given an opportunity to discharge their outstanding liability by paying the principal amount.
The Board has decided to remit fines, penalties and surcharges payable. This is subject to the condition that the principal amount is paid by June 30. The outstanding amount may be on account of any audit observation, audit report, demand notice or any adjudication order or where a person has failed to pay any amount of customs duty or claimed inadmissible refund or duty drawback of customs duty due to any reason.
This amnesty does not apply to vehicles falling under chapter 87 of PCT and to cases where criminal proceedings have been initiated or are in progress.
