SHEIKHUPURA: A Karachi-bound passenger train collided with an oil tanker in Punjab's Sheikhupura district on Monday night.

At least two people died, including the train driver, six people were also injured in the accident, rescue team said.

"The oil tanker was stuck due to a broken axle on the railway crossing and could not move as the train approached," said Minister for Railways Khuwaja Saad Rafique.

According to Deputy Commissioner Arqam Tariq, on receiving information, fire fighting vehicles of Rescue 1122 and Fire Brigade reached the spot and started to extinguish the fire.

Rescue 1122 and Edhi ambulances shifted the injured to DHQ Hospital Sheikhupura while emergency has been declared in all hospitals of the city.

DPO Sarfraz Khan Virk said that driver of the oil tanker has been arrested and investigation was underway.

"Three carriages near the engine had caught fire after the collision, but the fire did not effect the other carriages much," said Najam Khan, spokesperson for the Pakistan Railways.

Six bogies have totally burnt to ashes including the engine.
