After the multinational corporations relinquished their sponsorship of this international event one after the other, the World Bridge Federation assumed the responsibility of holding the contest under its own auspices.
Bridge associations and players all over the world have hailed this initiative of WBF, as the continuance of world bridge contest would draw participation of more people to this game of intellectual skill. More importantly, in view of the significance of bridge the International Olympic Committee has recognised it as one of the disciplines of Olympic Movement and more likely the list of sports will have bridge as a mind sport in the near future in Olympic games.
This year more than100,000 players in 80 countries around the world took part in a simultaneous pair contest that was held on 6th and 7th June. The results are being computed and tabulated at the headquarters of WBF in Miami and the official results are expected in a day or two.
According to initial reports the pair from Pakistan came in the reckoning to occupy the 5th or 6th position in the world. The pair in high ranking has a record of good performance in international bridge competitions to its credit.

WEST LED QUEEN OF SPADE:
On the lead North played small, East played 9 of spades, South played small West continued the Jack. North again played small East followed the suit South ruffed with five of hearts. South went into a deep thought as to how to eliminate a trump loser than he relied on necessary assumption of favourable distribution of cards with the opponents. The only way that could make a nearly impossible contract after having lost to the ace of spades.
South played a small club to the dummy's king and played another small spade and ruffed in hand and now at this stage the South won the ace, king and queen of diamonds ending in dummy and played the king of spade ruffed in hand with 8 of hearts now he cashed ace king of clubs and played the 9 of clubs. The West was helpless but to ruffed with the queen, which the dummy over ruffed with the king, now the 9 of hearts was played from the dummy and finesses the 10 of hearts and that was the end of the story. Thus the South made a little slam in hearts by expert handling of the card and caused to evaporate a certain loser a trump trick by superb maneuver of heart suit.
