The Sindh government has announced to raise hotels'''''''' bed tax by 10 percent from the next fiscal. Sindh Senior Minister Syed Sardar Ahmed presenting next fiscal year 2007-08 budget in Sindh Assembly on Friday said that in the view of booming hotel industry bed tax has been increased by 10 percent to 80 percent against previous 60-70 percent.
The Sindh government has estimated Rs 200 million income in the next fiscal in the account of bed tax levied on hotel industry of the province. Budget documents said that last fiscal receipts estimates of bed tax have been revised upward in anticipation of higher revenue expected from this levy.
Therefore budget estimates for the next fiscal 2007-08 have been pitched higher due to expected increase under this tax. For the current fiscal Sindh government fixed target of Rs 140 million on the head of bed tax but in the revised estimates it has been enhanced to Rs 160 million due to boom in the hotel industry.
