Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will visit Karachi to address lawyers in second week of August, said Abrar Hassan, President Sindh High Court Bar Association here Wednesday.
He was addressing general body meeting of SHC Bar Association at bar room. He informed that CJP had accepted SHCBA invitation but final date would be announced latter.
Abrar Hassan said that lawyers, as well as, people from every walk of life would give CJP a warm welcome in Karachi. CJP would be brought to SHC in a procession that would adopt the same route, as announced for his May 12 visit. CJP's visit to Karachi would become a historic event if he came on August 14, he added.
Muneerur Rehman, General Secretary SHCBA said that lawyers would not allow anyone to sabotage CJP Karachi visit and repeat of May 12 scenario. He said that May 12 violence had not weakened lawyers' movement but it further strengthened it.
Meanwhile, lawyer fraternity of Karachi Wednesday continued their protest campaign in Sindh High Court, City Courts and Malir Court against making Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry non-functional and filing reference against him.
Members of Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA), Karachi Bar Association and Malir Bar Association observed a token hunger strike and boycotted court proceedings for an hour from 10:30 to 11:30am. Three members of Sindh High Court Bar Association Mehtab Alam, Fida Hussain and Preem Ragi advocate observed token hunger strike at SHC Bar room.
Members of KBA and MBA also observed token hunger strike and observed one hour boycott of court proceeding in City Court and Malir Court as part of their ongoing protest campaign.
