Pakistan through Davis Cup finals after Hong Kong quits

22 Mar, 2017

Pakistan has qualified for the final round of the Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Group II as Hong Kong refused to tour Pakistan, citing security concerns.

Pakistan are through to the final round of the tournament thanks to the walk-over rule as the International Tennis Federation (ITF) declined Hong Kongs appeal of not visiting the country due to security issues.

ITF on the other hand supported Pakistan and showed complete confidence in security arrangements in the country and rejected Hong Kongs appeal and respectfully disagreed with the decision of the country.

China to default its upcoming Davis Cup tie against Pakistan, said the ITF in a statement. The ITF takes the security of all players, team personnel, officials and spectators very seriously. We are entirely confident in the security risk management procedures we have in place.

On the other hand, Pakistan Tennis Federations (PTF) is disappointed by Hong Kongs stance. We definitely wanted Hong Kong to come and compete here, PTF secretary Khalid Rehmani told The Express Tribune.
