ISLAMABAD: The 28th constitutional amendment Bill for the extension of military courts for another two years will be introduced in the National Assembly today (Monday) by the Federal Law Minister Zahid Hamid.

As per media reports, voting on the military courts amendment bill would be held in the National Assembly on Tuesday.

The political consensus to this effect was reached after the government agreed to accommodate the amendments moved by the PPP, JI and JUI (F).

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in a statement issued on Sunday said that amendments to the already tabled Constitutional Amendment Bill and Army Act amendment Bill have been lodged in the National Assembly (NA) in the light of the consensus arrived in the Parliamentary leaders meeting on Thursday.

According to the understanding, a national security committee comprising NA, Senate leaders will be formed to oversee the military courts.

Military courts tenure was expired in January this year. But after the PML-N and PPPs agreement over the extension of military courts, the bill is likely to be approved unanimously.
