Garments exports increase 4.17pc

ISLAMABAD: The readymade garments exports from the country during first seven months of current financial year increased by 4.17 percent as compared to the exports of the corresponding period of last year.

According to the data released by Pakistan Bureau of statistics, during the period from July-January, 2016-17, country earned US$ 1.301 billion by exporting about 18,834 thousand dozen of readymade garments.

The export of readymade garments from the country in first seven months of last financial year was recorded at 18,296 thousand dozen valuing US$ 1.249 billion.

Meanwhile, bed wear worth US$ 1.225 billion exported from the country which was 5.7 percent higher then the exports of US$ 1.166 billion of same period last year.

In first 7 months of current financial year, about 204,663 metric tons of bed wear exported as compared to the exports of 187.277 metric tons of the same period last year.

During the period under review tents, canvas and tarpulin worth US$ 85.575 million were exported as compared to the exports of US$ 53.197 million of same period of last year, showing an increase of 60.86 percent.

From July-January, about 27,887 metric tons of tents, canvas and tarpulin were exported as compared to the exports of 20,720 metric tons of corresponding period of last year.

The made up articles excluding (towels and bed wear) worth US$ 375.565 million were exported in seven months as compared to the exports of US$ 370.326 million, hence showing an increase of 1.42 percent.

It may be recalled that textile group exports from the country decreased by 1.54 percent and reached at US$ 7.224 billion in first seven months of current financial year as compared to the exports of US$ 7.338 billion of same pe riod last year.
