Glenn McGrath, one of cricket's greatest fast bowlers from Australia, has picked up Pakistan spin spearhead Yasir Shah in his Test Team of 2016.

Yasir Shah, who grabbed 45 wickets in 10 Test matches this year while becoming the fastest Asian bowler and the second fastest overall to reach the 100-wicket mark in 17 Test matches, was selected as the number 11 player in McGraths Test Team of the year.

The Aussie pacer was of the opinion that he had selected players not merely on stats but on the overall attitude on the field.

"I haven't picked it just on stats alone," Glenn McGrath said, in an interview to cricket .com.au.

"Stats are important, but it's all about attitude, the way you hold yourself in the game, and the effect you can have on the game."

Yasirs selection as the number 11 player, which as per McGrath is his favourite position in the team, was based on his wicket taking ability and his trait to take the ball away from the right handed batsman.

"Now for the number 11, my favourite position in the team. As much as I wanted to go for a fast bowler, I've gone with Yasir Shah. He's a quality legspinner and I like having someone who can take the ball away from the right-handed batsman. He's a wicket-taker, he averages over five wickets a Test in his career and I like having that off-spin/leg-spin combination."

McGrath Test team of 2016, will be led by Indian skipper Virat Kohli and comprised of (Aus) David Warner, (Eng) Joe Root, (Aus) Steve Smith, (NZ) Kane Williamson, (Eng) Jonny Bairatow, (Eng) Ben Stokes, (Ind) Ravichandran Ashwin, (Aus) Mitchell Starc, (SA) Kagiso Rabada, (Pak) Yasir Shah, (Eng) Stuart Broad
