Tokyo stocks close flat with eyes on Fed meeting

TOKYO: Tokyo stocks closed flat Wednesday, despite a pick-up in Japanese business confidence, as investors stuck to the sidelines ahead of a key US central bank meeting.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index edged 0.02 percent, or 3.09 points, higher to 19,253.61, managing another fresh high for the year.

The broader Topix index of all first-section issues was down 0.10 percent, or 1.56 points, at 1,538.69.
