Improvement in traffic system collective responsibility: CM

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said improvement in traffic system was a collective responsibility and short, medium and long term measures would have to be introduced for maintaining traffic flow on roads.

Presiding over the first meeting of steering committee set up for improvement of traffic system which considered various proposals for improving traffic system in Lahore and other big cities on Saturday, he directed that short term measures should be given a final shape within seven days.

He said use of modern technology for traffic management was need of the hour and model of the best cities of the world should be replicated for improving traffic system.

Shehbaz Sharif directed that Inspector General Police should constitute a team for improving traffic system. He said there was a need to work with commitment and dedication for ridding the people of traffic problems and there was no room for laxity in this regard. He said, besides traffic management, due attention would have to be paid to traffic engineering.

The Chief Minister appointed Member Provincial Assembly Jehangir Khanzada Vice Chairman of the steering committee.
