The raids were conducted after an FIR was registered by the NIA's Mumbai branch on Friday, under 153-A of IPC (Indian Penal Code) i.e. promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion...and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony, and various sections of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The NIA has registered an FIR against Dr Naik under the UAPA and he will soon be asked to join the investigation. If he doesnt, the agency will ask the court to declare him a proclaimed offender and set in motion to attach the properties of the IRF, said a senior home ministry official who spoke on the condition of anonymity, reported the Hindustan Times.

The IRF came under radar by the investigative agencies after one of the terrorists in Dhaka attack had allegedly posted on social media that they had been inspired by Naik's speeches.

Naik, is currently out of the country and is being believed that he is evading arrest, reported First Post, while his speeches are banned in the UK and Canada as well as in Malaysia.
