HONG KONG: Shares in Hong Kong ended lower Wednesday as late profit-taking wiped out gains built up through the day, although energy firms saw a healthy rally on a pick-up in oil prices.

The Hang Seng index slipped 0.19 percent, or 43.38 points, to 22,280.53.

And the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index shed 0.06 percent, or 1.93 points, to 3,205.06 while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, inched up 0.02 percent, or 0.45 points, to 2,124.85.
