ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Tuesday directed the federal and provincial governments to submit progress report regarding legislation for provision of shelter to the poor.

A thre-member bench of the court headed by Justice Amir Hani Muslim heard the case.

During the course of proceedings, the counsel for federal government informed the court that the government was considering legislation to resolve the matter permanently.

The counsel for Punjab government also informed that the provincial government was framing laws for rural and urban areas of the province.

Justice Mushir Alam remarked that provision of shelter to the poor was responsibility of the government.

He remarked that the court neither would allow establishment of illegal slum areas nor it would intervene in government affairs.

Later, hearing of the case was adjourned for two weeks.
