A major contract for construction of 129-km structure under Kachhi Canal Project worth Rs 9.737 billion has signed between Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) and a joint venture consisting M/s SMADB - Lilley - Shah Rukh here on Tuesday, said a press release issued here on Tuesday. Wapda Member (Water) and the Joint Venture Managing Director signed this agreement.
Under this Contract, the release added that 129-km length of Kachhi Canal out of total 500-km would be constructed in a period of 42 months. The Canal would be concrete lined and supply 6,000 cusecs of water for irrigating 7,13,000 acres of land in Dera Bugti, Naseerabad, Bolan and Jhal Magsi districts of Balochistan Province, the release said.
According to details, 968 million cubic feet earthwork, 26 million cubic feet concrete lining and 52 bridges and other minor structures would be constructed under this contract, the release added.
The Kachhi Canal would take off from Taunsa Barrage with 300 km lined and 200 km unlined course. When completed, the canal would irrigate barren lands in Balochistan. The accrued agricultural benefits of Kachhi Canal were estimated to be Rs 5.4 billion per year, the release concluded.-PR
