The Election Tribunal of the Lahore High Court (LHC) declared ineligible and disqualified MPA Shahid Qayyum of PML from Kasur here on Thursday. Further the court while addressing the Chief Election Commissioner, directed him to issue notification of petitioner Sheikh Allauddin, as returned candidate from PP-181, Kasur, in place of the disqualified Qayyum. The tribunal declared him ineligible while holding him non-graduate on the basis of the record maintained at the Punjab University, and further evidence brought forth to it during the proceedings of the election petition.
In the general elections of 2002, Petitioner Allauddin remained runner up by scoring highest number of votes after Qayyum.
Allauddin, in his petition, alleged that in order to overcome the graduation bar for contesting the general elections Qayyum, who himself was undergraduate showed the bachelor degree of his name also having the same parentage from Kharian.
The court on Thursday verbally announced its orders while written orders will be given on Friday (today).
