Chemi Viscofibre is the first and the only Viscose Rayon Staple Fibre (VSRF) manufacturing plant in Pakistan. Plant is located in the Special Industrial Zone in Nawab Shah, SIND. The Basic Technology is from Switzerland and the main equipment has been imported from China. Initial production capacity is 10,000 tons per annum.
The fiber is being marketed under the brand name of ChemiRayon. Sodium Sulfate and Carbon Disulphide are the by products.
What is Viscose Rayon Staple Fibre?
Viscose Rayon is a man- made, regenerated Cellulose Fibre made from either Wood or Linter Pulp. The general name Rayon was coined to describe it. Rayon industry is over a century old. At first, the new fiber was devised in imitation or as a substitute for silk so it is also called Artificial Silk. There are three types of Rayon: Cuprammonium, Acetate and Viscose.
Rayon and cotton often compete for similar end uses. Rayon's versatility as a fiber and relative cost effectiveness have not only increased its use in blending but has also encouraged its use.
ChemiRayon Properties:
General Characteristics:
ChemiRayon as a cloth is soft and comfortable. It drapes well, which is one of the reasons it is so desirable as an apparel fabric. Most characteristics are variable depending on processing, additives and finishing treatments, not to mention fabric construction.
Absorbency:
ChemiRayon is the most absorbent of all cellulose fibers, even more so than cotton and linen. Because of this, rayon absorbs perspiration and allows it to evaporate away from the skin, making it an excellent summer fabric. Its high absorbency applies equally to dyes, allowing beautiful, deep, rich colours.
Strength:
It loses a great deal of strength when wet. Because of this, it stretches and shrinks more than cotton.
Abrasion resistance:
Poor due to inelasticity of the fibers. It is easily damaged by scraping and will pill on the surface of the cloth.
Static:
No static build-up.
Chemical reactions: Because it is a cellulose fiber, it is damaged by acids.

Rising Demand of Viscose Staple Fibre in Pakistan:
The demand for Viscose Staple Fibre in Pakistan is met purely from imports. The demand had grown faster in early 90s than latter years. In recent years the Viscose Staple Fibre requirement has remained stable.
