Rupees 300 million are being spent on various projects pertaining to improvement and establishment of stadiums in all four provinces and Islamabad.
Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Director General (DG) Brigadier Arif Siddiqui has said this while talking to media persons here on Friday.
He said adequate efforts were being made for not only promoting indoor games but also setting up new stadiums in the country.
The PSB DG said that necessary arrangements were being given final touches for lying 'Austro turf' at Sialkot stadium here costing Rs 33 million. The lying of Austro turf would be started after completion of technical work in Sialkot stadium, he added.
Arif Siddiqui revealed that multi-purpose boxing gymnasium were being established at Islamabad, Peshawar, Lahore and Quetta while the football stadiums' establishment at Badin, Thatta, (Sindh) and Sibbi, Turbat and Pashin (Balochistan) and NWFP province.
Apart from this, hockey stadiums were being set up at Chakwal, Lahore and Khushab at cost of Rs 20 million, he added.
Similarly, he revealed that wrestling arena at Iqbal park Lahore was being established at cost of Rs 20 million where the Kabbadi and wrestling facilities would be made available and in this wrestling arena.
The PSB DG disclosed that three new Austro turfs were being laid at Sialkot, Hyderabad and Abbotabad hockey stadiums while austro turfs were being replaced of Karachi, Quetta and Peshawar hockey stadiums.
District Nazim Mian Naeem Javed informed the media that the construction of hockey stadium, here, would be completed at cost of Rs 75 million. Federal government would provide Rs 35 million for lying of Austro turf while Punjab government would share Rs 10 million, and Sialkot district government would contribute Rs 30 million, he added.
Naeem Javed revealed that feasibility report was being prepared for the construction of gymnasium near Sialkot stadium aimed at providing the facility of indoor games to the players.
